Salivary Gland Cancer Day - 4th October

Every year, lives are touched by salivary gland cancer, a rare but impactful condition that often goes unnoticed.

Salivary Gland Cancer Day has been created to shine a light on these little-known cancers, providing vital information, fostering understanding, and bringing together a supportive community.

Together, we’re creating a future where no one faces salivary gland cancer alone.

This Year’s Theme: One Community, One Cause

For the launch of Salivary Gland Cancer Day in 2025, our theme is:

“One Community, One Cause: Standing Together in Solidarity for Positive Change”.

This theme highlights the power of unity.

Whether you’re a patient, a family member, a friend, a healthcare professional, or a supporter, we’re all part of one community, standing together to create positive change.

Salivary Gland Cancer Day is about building connections, sharing knowledge, and supporting each other to make a real difference.

What Is Salivary Gland Cancer?

Salivary gland cancer can affect the salivary glands (in the mouth) and also secretory glands in other parts of the body (trachea, breast, vulva, skin, lacrimal gland).

There are more than 23 different types and they often require specialised care.

Early detection and awareness can make a difference, yet many people are unaware of the signs, which are often mistaken for something less serious — sometimes there are no signs at all.

By coming together as one community, we can ensure more people are informed, empowered, and supported.

We have growing sections of helpful resources on our website to support the education of patients, carers, clinicians and researchers on salivary gland cancer topics.

How Can You Get Involved?

Salivary Gland Cancer Day is your opportunity to join a global movement for positive change.

Here’s 7 ways you can contribute:

1) Fundraise for Salivary Gland Cancer:

We have a fundraising goal of £150,000 that we would like to hit before the 4th of October 2025. Your efforts and contributions will help us to improve research and resources for salivary gland cancer patients and carers.

We’re sharing lots of fundraising ideas on our social media accounts, so be sure to follow us.

6) Share Your Story:

If you’re a patient of salivary gland cancer, please consider sharing your story. We publish the stories of salivary gland cancer patients over on our YouTube channel.

These real-life stories help to inspire, educate, provide hope, and connect a community of rare disease patients.

7) Support Research:

Your financial donations go directly towards funding innovative research and providing essential services for those affected. You can donate here via JustGiving, PayPal, Bank Transfer or EasyFundraising.

Alongside fundraising, salivary gland cancer patients can donate their tumour tissue to the biobank at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, UK, to help further research.

Together in Solidarity: Stories That Inspire

This year, we’re featuring stories that embody the spirit of “One Community, One Cause.”

Through the words of patients, caregivers, and researchers, we celebrate the strength of our community and the power of collective action.

These stories highlight:

  • The importance of understanding and empathy.
  • The impact of research and innovation.
  • The value of connection and shared experiences.

Why Awareness Matters

Raising awareness about salivary gland cancer can lead to earlier diagnosis, better outcomes, and improved understanding.

By standing together in solidarity, we ensure that no one feels alone in their journey and that salivary gland cancer receives the attention it deserves.
